My Idea

I have decided to create my artefact for memory around my realisations that it seems the way to shock in order to make an image memorable has now become a tired worn-out cliché. In order to create an artefacts that stay true to my idea I have set myself some guidelines of what all my photographs must contain.

Firstly each photograph must be clear and unashamed attempt to shock the viewer. The images must contain or deal with ether nudity, death/suicide, drugs or addiction and the more of these subjects combined into one image the better.

The second thing is that this clear unashamed attempt to shock must be juxtaposed by ether not being the main focal point of the image or be being ignorned by other subjects in the picture in order to put across visually that we are increasing becoming immune to these types of images and maybe don’t care at all.

thirdly they should be simple images as I have discovered that simplicity seems to increase the memorability of an image. I may even chose to construct some of my image with the idea in mind that they could be used as an album cover.

finally all the photographs must be shot in a studio environment to enhance the idea that they are all staged.

So with these ‘obstructions’ in mind here are the three ideas I have come up with for my final media artefacts

Idea 1

My first idea is to construct an image where by my female model is in the background of the image doing a clichéd act to try and drab the viewer attentions, in my sketch have drawn her pointing a gun in her own mouth but it could also be something like her preparing to shoot up with heroin or maybe self harming. But in the foreground I am going to have two male models dressed in suites looking businessmen-like just going about their every day lives. One on his phone gesticulating wildly and the other just reading his newspaper. The reason I have chosen to have the men dressed this way is to be a link to the images of suited men women that where seen all over the world in photographs and press coverage of 9/11. This image is as if to say “we’ve seen it all before” after experiencing an event like 9/11 what could possibly shock them now.

Idea 2

My second idea is to have my female model lying on the a white background in the photography studio naked or very sparsely clothed surround buy all the clichéd objects like drug paraphernalia and guns in a total mess but the photograph is pulled back so the viewer  can clearly see that it is taken in a studio and is all staged, with all the lights and studio equipment in shot but she wont be the focal point of the image she will be in ether the right or left hand corner of the images to signify this idea that we would increasingly look straight through this and maybe not care.
